Eat the Rainbow

In this activity, students will be designing a plate of fruits and vegetables. Students will choose a fruit or vegetable of every color of the rainbow and then will write a couple sentences about the importance of planting and eating different fruits and vegetables.

Materials

  • 30-45 minutes

 

Instructions

  1. Go over the activity with students. It may be helpful to recap their future of food lesson first. A key part they’ll need to remember for this activity is that planting a variety of crops is best for soil health and crop survivability in the changing climate.

  2. Hand out activity sheets to students and provide them with coloring and writing utensils.

  3. Students should be picking their favorite fruit or vegetable for each color of the rainbow. For example, a student may pick an apple for the color red and a carrot for the color orange.

  4. After picking a fruit or vegetable for each color of the rainbow, students should draw, color, and label the selected fruit or vegetable for each color.

  5. Completed Eat the Rainbow worksheets can be displayed on the walls and then sent home!
