Materials

  • Worksheet

  • Coloring materials

  • Pencils

  • Laptops/ tablets (optional)

ACtivity Duration:

  • 20-30 minutes

Instructions

  1. Have students choose one endangered animal to write an acrostic poem about

  2. If time and resources allow, give students 10 minutes to look up their animals on their personal computers. They should be looking at photos and maybe do some reading about the animal!

    • Things to search: what do they eat? where do they live? how big are they? how many of them are left? why are they endangered? are they an herbivore, omnivore, or carnivore? are they a predator or prey? are they found near where I live?

  3. Hand out the worksheet (printed here) and have students draw their animal with as much specific details as they can. Then they can fill out the space for their animals name vertically, and the lines with the poem.

    • Inspiration for the poem lines: why the animal is endangered, what the animal looks like, what color the animal is, where in the world the animal lives, what endangered means, how many of the species are left, why they like the animal, why the animal is cool, what the animal likes to eat, what kind of animal it is (mammal, reptile, bird, etc.)

  4. Students can send their acrostic poems home to show who they live with what they learned with Change is Simple, and what they found out on their own as well!
